Reason Studios 13 or 14 (Future Talk)
I for sure was not upset by your post and just wanted to give you an explanation why there's possibly very little RS staff activity (here or elsewhere) right now.

an improvement in the level readings would be ideal, see the ppm level not only in the master but in each track, the sequencer needs to be modernized, it needs options to measure in different units such as samples (similar to pro tools or reaper). It is also necessary to be able to select the region of a clip and drag it without having to do so much trouble
There's really no bad DAWs out there.

Would be amazing if they update "ancient" devices.
Adding Thor new oscillators, filters, fx and import wavetables.
Kong with more sound design options and fx.
Dr. Octo with a large sample display and sound design synthesis options per slice.
NN-XT, with granular synthesis.
Malstrom with same fx processor of Algoritm
And a Combinator update with more CV inputs.
A kind of Reason Revisited

audio sequencing to video. This feature alone would allow me to drop one of the other DAW software I use.
Updates to the players such as dragging chords from the chord player.
general updates to everything.
Some new features using A.I.

Few can remember that Pro Tools offered the first free DAW back in the 90s. Unfortunately it was the most unstable software I've ever seen. It got loads of bad revues on Cnet.
There's also some high quality freeware. You can also use Bandlab and Tracktion for free. Some developers understand they need to be competitive. Some don't understand raising upgrade pricing over 30% reduces loyalty and the improvement doesn't match that increase.
Even the paid version was lacking up until version 3 or so.kitekrazy wrote: ↑24 Mar 2023Few can remember that Pro Tools offered the first free DAW back in the 90s. Unfortunately it was the most unstable software I've ever seen. It got loads of bad revues on Cnet.

Pro Tools hardware 1.0 (4 channels) with Opcode Studio Vision front end was my hang for most of the 1990s!

I'm not sure when we will see R13/14 given that we've been continually told that R12 is going to be worked on till its the best it can be, and that's a long way off just like the roadmap.
Personally I can't even bring my self to use my reward points on devices during a sale and haven't spent a penny on Reason since R12 launch and can't see that changing anytime soon, I'm more than happy with R11 RRP in any other daw and will not be upgrading to R12/13/14 until I see improvements in performance / development speed / standalone features.
The only thing I'm grateful for is RRP as I'm finally able to break out of the current ecosystem and move into other daw's that provide functionality rather than under delivering on their marketing hype.

That would be nice. Most developers use those excuses to create paid upgrades. Some like to change the paint and make it worse like Cubase. Sometimes I think Reason shines in it's simplicity.Billy+ wrote: ↑24 Mar 2023getting back on topic

In general to be fair,
although I admit I haven't given it a try since the performance improvements but the fact is that the new hidpi implementation creates massive processing demands on rendering the initial images along with massive amounts of storage requirements for each device at each zoom level you use making the whole rack extension requirements far beyond what's advertised and still producing graphical glitches from what I've seen, maybe not as bad as in the start but we're talking 16 month to fix and it's still not truly fixed..
don't get me wrong something needed doing, I'm just not sure what's been done is the best solution it's certainly not the most optimized solution and on occasion requires manually deleting the cache which at this point should have a menu option for.
Optimal? It's rendered on the GPU.
Needing to manually delete the cache says absolutely nothing about optimization. Though they ought to provide a simple option in the menu to clean/manage the cache.
REs are rendered from images, which means that supporting high resolutions requires really large image files. That's just how images work.
I always thought that was a major shortcoming as it leads to this scenario.
There are two main ways to render at different levels of zoom:
1. Just feed the GPU the highest resolution images, and let its mipmap interpolation do its best job of rendering at a variety of resolutions. But they will be blurrier.
2. Resample images for individual levels of zoom (which is how it currently works). This can allow for more appropriate methods of interpolation that you might not want to perform in real time.
Also, RE custom displays had to be rendered in software (or at least this was the case in the early days as they found GPU rendering does not work).
But when it comes to "optimization" and efficiency - the GPU renders the devices as fast as a GPU can render it.
...
Developers are always working as fast as they can. We just might not agree with what they are focusing on.
But nobody truly knows what is best to prioritize. Maybe Allihoopa or Take could have become a major hit and earned RS enough money to expand the team and ramp up development and sample content. Nobody really knows.
Maybe if it had VST from the beginning, the rack might have come off as a gimmick and made it even less popular. Who knows?
Maybe if they focused on what you think they should be focusing on, the features they neglected to do so might have caused a bigger mass exodus.
Nobody has a crystal ball.
I'm not too enthused about R12 or R+, but it still serves me just as well as older versions; plus it's got some additional features!
I held off from upgrading or committing to R+. I'm only on R+ because it came free with a few hardware purchases, so I've got at least a year of R+ for free.

Enjoy your free 12 months of R12+ but just occasionally think of those who have actually spent 20 each month for the last 16 months on something that is absolutely broken as of today R12.5.2
meanwhile enjoy R12 perpetual and or your over priced subscription to what amounts to a non usable betaUnfortunately, an ugly bug crept into Reason 12.5.2.
The bug makes Reason 12.5.2 crash if you try to automate any Master Section parameter - or create a sequencer track for the Master Section device.
We're working to fix this bug a.s.a.p. and plan to release a bug fix update late next week.
]We're terribly sorry for the inconvenience!
Meanwhile, don't automate any Master Section parameter - or create any sequencer track for the Master Section.
Even better. No input from the 'artist'

Improvements for older versions are called updates. They improve it / add stuff and it's called an update. If you want an improvement to Reason 11, it's called Reason 12.

So like using VST's in Combinators do you mean?

I mean sending different MIDI to different instruments, like you can in the DAW. The modularity of Reason becomes way less useful in the Rack plugin for me because everything gets triggered by the same MIDI.
