Hej. I’m trying to make a decision. I have Jiggery Pokery’s Republik and although the cowbell sounds great to me a Sound Engineer Farmer friend of mine who has considerable experience with cattle says that the dynamic range on Robotic Bean’s More Cowbell comes closer to emulating the real thing. I have managed to source a used version of the More Cowbell RE on eBay. The seller says he can let it go for €99. As I am unable to trial More Cowbell I wonder if anyone has compared these two REs and can advise. Thanks.

Hi,
the More Cowbell RE circuit was based aon a modified variable-moo design built on AC12 anticorruption NPNP transistors which went out of production in 1961 and had a working "on" lifetime of 3 to 4 days. There are no replacents or working substitutes, so on eBay listings you'll usually see More Cowbell units described as having "only 16 hours use" etc but there's no way to tell for sure. Best avoided.

You should get both, you can never have enough cowbell.

Although, I might add, the real thing is always the best. The warmth of that cast iron transients - just mmmmh  but only if you hit it with a stick made from rare white ceder, they go for $600+

I already have one of those sticks. In the 80s everyone wanted to get rid of them. Kind of like TB-303s.

Thanks man. I guess I’ll just have to make do until some developer releases a Boutique edition of the hardware.

The gear, I think, is not so important as long as you hire a professional cow to play the part.
Who’s using the royal plural now baby? 🧂

Woah, I hope the eBay thing is a joke? You should absolutely not have to pay anything for More Cowbell since we've always offered it for free during April Fools!

PM me your PH user name and we'll sort something out ;)
