Well, I posted this once over on the soon-to-be-closed PUF, but that was shortly before the announcement/implosion, and on reflection it might have been better served in the Music forum instead of Advanced Users, where it was probably OT. As far as I'm aware it got little to no attention.

So if everybody's moving here, I'll give it another shot.

If you've never heard of it, the RPM Challenge is a long-running yearly event, sort of like NaNoWriMo (where you write a novel during the month of November), only for music. The challenge is: during the month of February, record an album. (An album is defined, in this case, as either 10 songs or 35 minutes total.) It should be recorded completely in the month of February. Some purists like to compose the album in February as well, though other people plan ahead and write material beforehand.

In any case, the full info can be found here:

http://www.rpmchallenge.com/

I've been doing the Challenge for the last several years. In 2014, my album was an atmospheric/abstract thing called Impenetrable:

For 2013, I sent the somewhat more accessible and musical downtempo/jazz/electronica/whatever thing called Pixel Herd:

When I finish the Challenge for 2015 I'll post whatever album results here. But I invite anyone else who takes the Challenge or has taken it in the past to plug their own albums in this thread.

Looks interesting, thanks for the link. I could do with some impulsion. Interesting work, by the way.

Tom Williams's (my chief lecturer at university) compositions might interest you.

I love RPM. I did it in 2013 when I first got back into Reason from Logic. Even had one of the songs I made make it onto their official Podcast. Didn't do it last year but this year it's on! What a great content generating challenge highly recommend giving it a go.

Lets do it!

If I have isolated this properly, clicking the link below should get you a new tab to an instance of the Bandcamp player where my new album is:

Here's what happened.

For the bulk of February I had been working on an album of darkish electronic pop, intended to have vocals and everything. However, as the deadline approached, it became clear that I was not going to be able to record the vocals in time. My choices were: release the album without vocals, which I think would have been not so great, as the music might have been a bit repetitive without the vocals to help things along. Or I could have simply not sent any album, and declared failure for the 2015 RPM.

What I did instead was whip up an experimental album at the last minute. On the last day in February I made 5 tracks, 9 minutes apiece, and sent that in as the album, I Blew It. I had made some hasty notes for processes to use in tracks, and had come up with 8 ideas altogether, so the day after, March 1, I recorded the remaining 3 tracks. So there's two versions of I Blew It: the 5-track version I sent into RPM, and the 8-track Extended Anniversary Remaster edition which I've put up on Bandcamp.

Enjoy.
