(ANY) Sell your music online.... thoughts?

Well looks basically like the same sort of aggregator offered by Tunecore, CD Baby etc.

Their point of difference seems to be no up-front fees. Only pay if you want extras - and they hope to amass piles of latent cash they can lever into productive capital.

Just like any other thing like this, understand that putting your tunes on iTunes etc DOES NOT mean that you will make a single sale. You need to drive the business from live shows, porn websites etc.

I'd say it is worth a go as if there are no catches the offer is really great.

I would give anything to have a model back like mp3.com had...

I would drive people to our site, and we made just about 5k in a few short months just from people listening to our songs.

We ALWAYS made them available for download for free. As soon as Universal bought that site, they shut down the small bands
and then all you saw were pop culture bands....they killed us off on purpose.

Before that we had a song on the international top 40 chart at number 17 above Madonna and other "famous" bands.....but not after Universal got
ahold of the site...

mp3.com had CD printing and sales too...it was a great time...sorry just rem/ranting lol

I've been following CD Baby and Tunecore and it seems they both do a decent job. There is also a new company called Distrokid -- a flat fee model.

My favorite new music site is Bandcamp as it seems the most ideal place to sell music & merch while also being the most sustainable business model. Bandcamp's app is also very nice. I could see selling there and skipping the entire Spotify / iTunes / Amazon thing, assuming you can get your fans to Bandcamp, and get them to start using the app.

I like how Freshtunes, like Distrokid, is putting a 100% sales claim right up front. My issue is I'm not sure I want to share a single penny with the likes of Spotify, Amazon, and iTunes.

Looks like a pretty good deal actually. Matches well with Distrokid. Only thing distrokid might have over this is automatic payment splits for collaborators. It's the only distributer I know of that does this.

Bandcamp

This little baby is growing up quickly. A LOT of artists I follow seem to be using it more and more these days. The choice of different audio formats is really nice, plus the "name your price" format is cool. A lot of people will obviously grab your tunes for free, but I noticed the other day that I've been getting a few plays on Soundcloud from Saudi Arabia.. so who knows, maybe a member of the Al-Saud family is a fan of mine, in which case that name your price function could pay off nicely if they're feeling generous

I really like Bandcamp as it is very true to the artist and album format. You do of course have to drive traffic but reality is that this the same as with iTunes, Spotify etc if your name isn't well known already.

Bandcamp also has the advantage of being able to offer your music at a lower price (to help catch passing traffic) whilst you still reap a greater income. If you are driving all the traffic then I think Bandcamp is really all you need.
