well obviously there is style wars but that is a documentary for hard core graf heads
theres some b-boying in it and some decent tunes in the soundtrack, its probably my most watched film of all time alongside bladerunner
it makes me more nostalgic then anything else now days, sad that that magical time is well and truly passed now and will never return
*as soon as they invent a time machine i know where im heading lol
heres another clip from wildstyle of flash, so primitive and raw, but so funky yeah
and the best thing about both films is that the casts are pretty much made up of the real practioners of the culture, not actors
* this tune features ramellzee (r.i.p) who was a graffiti artist and mc, its featured on the sound track of "style wars" but the thing is rammellzee actually stars in the film "wildstyle" he raps up on stage at the ampitheatre in one of the scenes
to see rammellzee in "wildstyle" check this clip out (fast forward to the 2.40 point)

Been alternating between Matt Lange's Ephemera record and LFO's Advance quite a bit lately.

I'm loving the raw sound coming from the decks, and these vocals all seem to be the roots of a hell of a lot of samples around everywhere.decibel wrote:...so primitive and raw, but so funky yeah
Managed to find a copy of both the films and looking forward to watching them. Thanks a bunch for sharing and for your recommendations, very interesting stuff!
Awesome, this stuff is new to me I really needed a few to try so thanks.motuscott wrote:Jagwah check these out:
Skip James, early recordings
Son House, Death Letter (either the original or the rerecording, both are amazing)
Joseph Spence, Bahamian Guitarist
Skip James is cool just listened to a bunch of his, will go for some more of this.
Son House - Death Letter, truly a gem thanks you for letting me know about this, love it.
Joseph Spence wrote Jump in the line!? I thought Harry Belafonte was a genius all on his own lol. He did a great cover of it but Joseph is truly unique in what he is doing, love his grumbles and the bouncy upbeat vibe.
I ignorantly thought blues was 'sad mooded' music and for that reason I avoided it. Is there a more specific name for blues that has this happier, upbeat vibe, like the Joseph Spence type?
Thanks so much for your input, I have been on an enjoyable musical journey recently
There's a world of it. Enjoy. No particular name for happy vs sad blues...

Who’s using the royal plural now baby? 🧂
It is 10 years old and for me still the best live set. The monomachine and machinedrum gear rocks.

That's great it's actually a relief to know there isn't 50 different sub genres to understand. Thanks heaps for your recommendations, lots of good listening aheadmotuscott wrote: There's a world of it. Enjoy. No particular name for happy vs sad blues...
