Players
Curious to see how people feel about the players. I've fallen in love with the dual arpeggio but haven't really connected with the other two yet.
Cosmopolis, out now: : https://timeslaves.bandcamp.com/album/cosmopolis! Check out the first single, "City Lights:
Bein' someone who doesn't play keyboards good at all, Chords & Scales is logically set above Dual Arp (wich i love as well; quite frankly; it's insanely good )The_G wrote:Curious to see how people feel about the players. Nice tip, thx !!tibah wrote:I like them all.
Chords should be more obvious to like, but try Note Echo on an OctoRex, if you haven't found a use yet.
I like to follow the dual arp with scales to force arps into a specific scale - you can get more 'musical' results in some cases using this approach.The_G wrote:Curious to see how people feel about the players. doesn't it work the other way as well though? if your notes are getting locked to a scale before they go through the arpeggiator, it still keeps things where they need to be, correct? or is it like order of effects, where you could end up with drastically different sounds, depending on the order you have them in?selig wrote:I like to follow the dual arp with scales to force arps into a specific scale - you can get more 'musical' results in some cases using this approach.The_G wrote:Curious to see how people feel about the players. For me, all three Players can produce stunning and shocking results especially when combined.
The visual representation on the left side of Scales & Chords is irritating to me. I think they should have made the white and black keys the same or almost the same color. Now with 4 colors and even an extra shadow for the black keys I cannot see anything what belongs to the scale and what not. Maybe with some time I am good, but damn why not just bright and dark, it would be so much easier to see.

Note Echo is one I can't see me using a massive amount but saying that I have used it in my first track I did in Reason 9, in fact I went out my way and used a lot of Players in the track "The Players Took Me There" and with that track I wanted it not to sound like I had just used players (if that makes sense LOL), I think they are very creative tool.

I think we need...
I will not say anything. Just wait until the air dissolve haze of euphoria.

I think they're ok. I'll probably make some kind of banger out of em.
Only thing I don't get is why they're "players" rather than just RE's that you can plug into this or that. No CV ins or outs. I jus don't get it.

Dual arpeggio is pretty cool on an OctoRex as welltibah wrote:I like them all.

I mean, I'd kinda like to put em in Combi's and so on. But...you can't. (shrugs...) Nevermind.

Yep, they're featured quite a lot throughout the Combinators in the new R9 soundbank.Exowildebeest wrote:You can.plaamook wrote:I mean, I'd kinda like to put em in Combi's and so on. But...you can't. (shrugs...) Nevermind.
I like that you don't have to connect them via CV/Gate. The option would have been nice. It can be a hassle hooking up all the CV/gate in autotheory which I already have, nice to be able to throw it on there and instantly be able to control stuff.
The arp would be the main one I would want CV/Gate on, I'm sure there would be interesting posibilities with that.

I don't get this at all honestly. Players alter the MIDI input from your keyboard, the sequencer or the mouse/key keyboard thingie inside Reason.gphg wrote:Me neither, very weird decision indeed.plaamook wrote:No CV ins or outs. I jus don't get it.
I would also like a keysync / barsync switch.
What would be the benefit/difference to use CV from that source, compared to the numerous device we already got in Reason to generate and alter CV?
What CV out signal a player like chords & scales would actually produce? The chord? One note? The scale? How would that even work in your opinion?

I love the chord and arp players. Spent hours playing around with them yesterday and came up with some results that sound great.
I'm still trying to understand how I'll use the note echo, though. Anyone care to share ideas or examples?

the players are great, they really change instruments that you thought were at the end of their usefulness.
i'd love a "humanize" mode for the scales and chords. not a huge fan of perfectly timed robot chords in every song.
still a great device though. play around with a couple keys at once and you'll see some really wild chords popping up
love how quickly you can dial in inversions

I think it's just how I'm used to working. I like to randomise things via a matrix. Yeah, I know, you can work around it. Still, I just don't see the point. We already ahve 'players' in reason like the arp and so on. Why create a totally different mode? It's fine. I just don't get it.tibah wrote:I don't get this at all honestly. CV was too limited for what they was aiming for with the players since it's 1. based on using CV which is 2. monophonic. RPG8 is a great device, but dual arp takes it one step further, even more if you ask me, because it's not based on trying to work with CV implementation, like things as AutoTheory, which works with micro latencies to achieve a chord. It opens up Reason for some new tools and creative combinations, working on the note input to an instrument, rather than trying to generates notes by using CV. It's also more intuitive, to me anyway. It also allows for finally being able to send the notes to track in a convenient way.plaamook wrote:I think it's just how I'm used to working. I like to randomise things via a matrix. So, to "get the point" you have to understand where the differences are, which benefits and limitations they bring and that your beloved ways with CV/Matrix or whatever it is are still here.
