We wanted reach out and tell you that in two weeks time we will be increasing the price of Reason 12. If you own a previous version of Reason, the price to upgrade to Reason 12 will increase from $129 to $199 (£199, €199, CAD259), while the full version of Reason for new users will increase from $399 to $499 (£499, €499, CAD599). Oh, and if you have Intro/Lite, your price to upgrade will go from $299 to $399 (£399, €399, CAD489).

I feel that this post will give work to the moderators
Maybe this is a good thing. Maybe it’ll help me save money and update only when necessary

I take this as: shit just got serious motherfuckers, the coming upgrades will blow your mind, they are going to be so good they cost more!
I'm so glad I went for the 12 upgrade at £60 on offer. Reason 12 forever!
I'm not sure anything they could add with the next version would be worth £200 to me.
Just my opinion. I'm sure it will still be worth it for many people.

If this isn't the final nail in the coffin then I don't know what is.
Lots of people were holding off to see if black friday sales would get 30% off due to lack of features. I don't think anyone was expecting a 53.5% permanent increase.
That latest blog post was all PR bullshit. They are completely out of touch with userbase. Marketing and Sales riding a dead horse right into the ground.

Reason has long had one of the lowest upgrade prices in the DAW market.
Interesting strategy to leapfrog to the highest upgrade price in the market.

rrrrggghhh…not a good look for such a feature-light release…they really should’ve waited until 12 was more substantial before announcing this. 🥲
My exact thought as soon as I saw this. Came straight here

I'll take it, but the point updates and Reason 13 better be really awesome then!
Well I've definitely made my mind up nowReason Studios wrote: We want to make sure you have sufficient time to buy or upgrade to Reason 12 before the new prices come in effect on October 1st 2021, so anybody on the fence about when to purchase Reason 12, this is it. Seriously, no time like the present!
I'm keeping my cash

Must mean they’re bringing the heat. It’s a big change.
Well the truth is, we want to ensure we can keep developing Reason to be the best it can be and delivering on the features we see you asking for (and maybe even wow you with some you never knew you needed!)
I suggested a few weeks back that they might raise the upgrade price. I never imagined it would rise by that much! I guess it paves the way for a "generous" discount on Black Friday and in the meantime it pushes more people towards the subscription.

By raising prices?? If there was going to be a "nail in the coffin" of Reason Studios as a business and Reason as a product, they'd put everything on sale for far cheaper than it is instead of raising the price. You don't raise the price when things aren't selling like hotcakes - you raise it because your product is undervalued.artechokeheart wrote: ↑15 Sep 2021If this isn't the final nail in the coffin then I don't know what is.

Or you want to push your user base on to your new financing modelEnochLight wrote: ↑15 Sep 2021By raising prices?? Strongly disagree. They're as in denial about the state of their product as you seem be.EnochLight wrote: ↑15 Sep 2021By raising prices?? The lack of sales from R12 release, the refunds from upgrades to R12 given over performance issues and lack of sales increase despite releasing R+ AND R12 is why raising upgrade price is yet another detached marketing decision on how to limit collateral damage without doing anything constructive.
It was a slow decline until now, but I think it will be much faster now, despite the blind still lapping this up and thinking there must be something worth the price.
And I am sure that nothing is "selling like hotcakes".
Another cheeky move to push people over to a subscription model.
What I want to know is, will there be an update to R12 before the grace period ends Oct 1st so I can evaluate it properly? Because in its present state, I need to get paid to upgrade, not the other way around.
But thanks for the warning though.

Technically, you could make out that any decision they make is really a ruse to trick us into subscribing for life.
Repeating this mantra won't make others believe it.
